Notes from the flight–
These just prove it’s good to read your RSS feeds:
First of all, Alex Hardy has released SimÂpleÂConÂtact Pro. I’ve been using the free verÂsion on my site for a while now, and have been lovÂing it– and am seriÂously conÂsidÂerÂing buyÂing the Pro verÂsion for myself and for clients. I’ve posted about it before, and the biggest difÂferÂence is the abilÂity to add cusÂtom fields. $20 for pro, the verÂsion I’m using is still availÂable for free. HopeÂfully should have the funds soon!
Katie at GoMeÂdia has posted two of three parts of her How to Design a Font series, and has other useÂful TypogÂraÂphy tips, here. Which has come at an opporÂtune time, since I’m really getÂting into this part of VecÂtor GraphÂics & Junior StuÂdio at school. I’ve bought a couÂple of books from AmaÂzon for super cheap, and have seriÂously conÂsidÂered buyÂing a copy of FontÂlab, even before seeÂing her posts. (That’s another 45 bucks with stuÂdent disÂcount for the not-so-professionally-expensive proÂgram TypeÂTool. blech. Sucks being a poor colÂlege student.)
I’ve always loved the look of the writÂten word, and studyÂing TypogÂraÂphy has seriÂously improved my work already. My design for a camÂpus Bible Study flyer even got choÂsen over the othÂers, even the seniors, in class– and I blame my use of stock phoÂtogÂraÂphy & makÂing the verse the focal point… She wanted modÂern & eye-catching with “maybe some music or worÂship graphÂics.” ModÂern? Well, after watchÂing the docÂuÂmenÂtary on it– the only thing I could think was HelÂvetica. So if you have some hateÂful feelÂings toward the font, sorry– but it got the piece printed
Started talkÂing to Steve this mornÂing about startÂing a new font-creation hobby, so we can get really good at this. I think he’s excited.
Oh, and if you haven’t been to CSS-Tricks, you’re missÂing out. Some fanÂtasÂtic conÂtent from this guy, almost daily!Â
Yeah, I think that’s about it for today. I surÂvived my 8 week World Civ class, now for the rest of the semesÂter! Midterms came out pretty well. AdvisÂing Day is TuesÂday already! Yeesh! I’m almost done!! Maybe watchÂing Reni turn 4 on TuesÂday helps me get a grasp on how fast time really does go by.
Oh, PS– HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I went to Steve’s church last night as an Artist… I wore what I wore to school on WednesÂday! ActuÂally, I was a hippie-gypsy-artist, because those were all the guesses I was getÂting. Dug my cloak out of the closet for today! It’s good to be an individual =)
Much love.
End
